As a marketing and communications strategist, I have always believed that you cannot truly understand a community or an entrepreneurial ecosystem by looking at it through a screen. You have to stand in the space, invest your time, and build real relationships.
For the past two years—spanning 2025 and 2026—I have had the distinct privilege of doing exactly that as a coaching mentor and strategic service provider for Our Village United. – Mission, “A Growth Engine For Small Businesses”
Over an intensive, 12-week program, my role is to step into the arena alongside brilliant business leaders as their marketing and communications coach. Together, we roll up our sleeves and transition high-level concepts into practical, sustainable business growth. It is an intentional, layered process designed to help these businesses build, scale, and thrive.
The 12-Week Roadmap: Building Strategic Foundations
We don’t do fluff, and we don’t jump into tactics without a plan. Over the course of 12 weeks, I work hand-in-hand with these entrepreneurs to establish robust brand fundamentals before launching into execution. Our deep-dives cover a comprehensive strategic matrix:
- Core Fundamentals: Defining precise Customer Segmentation, building out vivid Customer Profiles, and mapping the entire Customer Journey.
- Messaging & Positioning: Refining Marketing and Sales Messaging to ensure their unique value proposition connects emotionally and strategically with their target audience.
- The Digital Ecosystem: Engineering sustainable frameworks for Content Marketing, social media marketing, and email marketing.
- Visibility & Conversion: Implementing search engine optimization (SEO), e-commerce marketing strategy, and influencer marketing.
- Retention & Scale: Navigating lifecycle marketing and establishing clear, data-driven SMART Goals to measure long-term success.
The Cohorts: Elevating Brilliant Independent Brands
The true heart of this mentorship is the entrepreneurs themselves. Every business brings its own unique energy, brilliance, and distinct market friction points.
- The 2025 Cohort: Last year, I had the absolute joy of working with two incredible, standout businesses: Pink Pothos and The Alchemist Den. Watching them anchor their brands and expand their local footprints has been immensely rewarding.
- The 2026 Cohort: This year, the journey continues as I partner with the phenomenal team at the Enchanted Tea Lounge, tightening their strategic messaging and building the operational infrastructure to scale their elegant, community-centric experience.
A Two-Way Street: Giving Back While Scaling Up
People often think mentorship is a one-way street, but this experience has been a profound learning journey for me as well.
Stepping into this role forces me to continually review the technical landscape, remain sharp, and ensure my own skills stay completely optimized. By working intimately with these diverse business models, I get to learn completely new things, deeply understand the evolving challenges that modern entrepreneurs face, and enhance my own consulting practice.
There is nothing quite like the feeling of giving back using your hard-earned knowledge and skills. Watching these Black-owned, woman-owned, and independent businesses step into their power, attract regional audiences, and thrive is the ultimate proof of concept for why public-private entrepreneurial infrastructure matters.
The sun is constantly rising on new opportunities for the entrepreneurs in our community—and Deeg Consulting LLC will always be right there in the field, helping them lead the conversation.
Aim high. Upwards!
